An experiment in tone~
It slipped into my world building wile I was working on it, but I don’t think it’ll ever become anything major. (watch as it becomes a 16 part novel series and hit children’s cartoon.)
The precise angles on the muscles and bones are all off because there’s no ref in the world that could help with this, but I think I still got the general idea across okay.
So why won’t those “male parts” causing violent behavior simply removed surgically? ;)
Clipping the spines is a perfectly normal procedure that carries with it (almost) no social stigma. But they always seem to grow back thicker…
Generally when males have them clipped they claim to do it for “cosmetic reasons” to draw attention away from any medical issues they may have had. Having sores and infections makes women shy away, and makes rival males laugh their asses off.

It’s a “three gendered” reptilian species called the eknidaii. During their younger years they’re nearly unisex. Their bodies all resemble each other very closely from tip, to toe, and even that spot between the legs! However, following their first 4-6 years is a puberty-like period of extreme growth that propels them into their future bodies.
-Females start showing dull camouflaged coloration in their scales, and their bodies grow tall and slider to help them climb trees. Often they develop calculating, cautious, and maliciously boring personalities. It is unclear whether their status as hunters causes these behaviors to emerge, or if their role was decided to keep them away from the happenin’ parties.
-Males begin their adulthood with a series of painful growth spurts that last for most of their lives. This growth isn’t limited to their exterior though, as behind their genital plates there’s an even more frightening transformation is taking place. The development of two retractable phalic organs said to resemble angry milk drenched porcupines. it is theorized that the pressure from these uncomfortably pointy man-parts is the primary cause for the violent territorial behaviors that eknidaii males are notorious for.
-Intersexual eknidaii are sometimes mistaken for “late bloomers” as they barely seem to grow at first. They are also the only gender that does not develop tallons on their feet, as well as the only gender to approach sex recreationally. They aren’t fertile —thankfully— but rather they “play” with females to prepare them for real mating. Females on their own are not known to practice this. Personality wise, intersexual eknidaii are highly sociable and nurturing; helping them maintain nests, raise young, and keep neighbors from eating each other.
